Late last Friday, I got a call from the Director's office asking me and 2 other officers to attend the Morning Assembly cum Meeting with our Minister on 19 Jan 2009. So when I reached PICC at 8.30am for the event, I was suprised to see banners proclaiming Hari Inovasi MOSTI event rather than Perhimpunan Pagi. Hmm...I was thinking... did I just got sucked-in into an event that nobody wanted to go??
Anyway, it was my first time listening to Malaysia's Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, Datuk Dr. Maximus J. Ongkili. He seemed quite easy-going and down-to-earth. His style was inclusive. He's quite aware of what's exactly happening on the ground, in terms of the general public's grasp of science&technology and the needs & wonders of high-tech products, services and solutions. The only thing I couldn't understand was why is there a need for a specific event like Hari Inovasi to gather all 27 agencies under MOSTI when there's already the monthly Morning Assembly? It feels like double work. Not counting the expenses incurred for these kind of events. Are we going to see a thousand innovations a year with the inception of Innovation Day? It was hoped that this event is to be a enhancement of collaborative efforts between agencies...get to talk more hence innovate more...
Today's event covered the launching of the new MOSTI logo, tagline, song & corporate uniform. For our 'effort' to sit down and listen, we were all given mee hoon breakfast, 5-dishes+ rice for lunch, a MOSTI T-shirt (or cap), 2 calenders and a notepad.
While the new minister sounded eager to commence work, he has told us that he doesn't know how long he will serve as MOSTI's minister. I guess he was referring to PM change in March, which will surely entails a cabinet change.

[this is good] What do you mean?

Well...an appointed minister in the cabinet must be someone whom the new Prime Minister could work with and more importantly politically well-aligned to the government of the day. Dr. Ongkili is still MOSTI's minister till today...
Hope I answered your question. Thanks for stopping by :)
